AIX 4.3.3 with the options: udp_pmtu_discover = 1 tcp_pmtu_discover = 1 NOTE: AIX 4.3.3 uses a TTL of 60 for UDP and TCP. However it uses TTL of 255 for ICMP. Great catch by Christine. 3. Are the Src IPs spoofed, or the real systems? The real systems. SCAN: ----- A specific site received 91 ICMP_ECHO packets within 90 minutes from 47 different sites. Unique facts about the 91 packets. - 30 of the 47 systems thats sent the ICMP packets were up nmap -sP -iL - The packets have a random TTL. However, each TTL is 239 or larger. - DF flag is set on all 91 packets. - TOS is 0x0 on all 91 packets. - Each packet's IP ID number is random. - 77 of the ICMP_ECHO packets had an ICMP ID:39612 and Seq:57072. - 13 of the ICMP_ECHO packets had an ICMP ID:0 and Seq:0 This means the ICMP ID and Seq numbers were most likely set by the same tool and not by the operating system.
